Debtor Education - Los Angeles Bankruptcy Lawyer * Adoption Attorney

Debtor Education

Prior to obtaining a final discharge in a consumer bankruptcy proceeding the debtor must complete an approved instructional course in personal financial management. The instructional course typically takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours and can be completed over the Internet, in person, or by mail.

In a Chapter 7 case, the instructional course must be completed no later than 45 days after the 341a meeting (also known as the “meeting of creditors”).

In a Chapter 13 case, the instructional course is not required until the end of the debtors 3 to 5 year debt repayment plan.

An approved instructional course can be taken online at www.debtoredu.com for $9.95 per household or through any other approved debtor education provider.
